News from Under Armour

Here's a quick tid-bit about my favorite sports apparel brand.

At a meeting yesterday, Under Armour said it has a prototype for a new running sneaker. I mean this isn't news exactly, I'd read before that some running groups in the Baltimore area were getting to test it out.

What is kind of newsy is that after the very successful launch of its cross-trainer over the weekend, Kevin Plank, a Maryland alum and CEO of Under Armour, said he eventually expects shoes sales to exceed apparel sales.

As a runner who has already found shoes that work for me, I don't really see myself switching brands just because the new shoes bear the UA name unless the shoe is super fabulous and far out performs my Mizunos.

I don't know. What do you guys think?

  1. There are a lot of reasons people pick shoes, function, style, loyalty... Under Armour is coming in late to the game, but they have a reputation for good, albeit expensive products!

  3. Yep.. its a big enough market. And most people would try a shoe once. So they have to be sure that they are mighty good!

  4. Personally I would wait until there are more reviews from non company folks.
Also, finding a shoe you like is HUGE. When I sold Brooks we had people who SWORE by them and people who HATED them! It really is an individual choice! Like I would not change from my Under Armor sports bras...no matter who came out with what!!!

  7. I wouldn't switch right away. You found something that works for you and I would stick with them.

A guy I work with was wearing UA shoes. I had no idea they even made shoes until I saw them last week. Anyway, they looked good, but you know us runners. . . loyal to our shoes that work for us. They'll have to target the newbies. :)

  10. Yeah, I am happy with my ASICS so unless they can make me faster I probably won't change.

  11. Nike changed my shoe (Structure Triax 10+) with their newer model, so I feel like I've been thrust out of my favorite shoes and into the abyss... But not without hitting every single race expo, website, and outlet store in search of a size 11 in the old model! I say if the shoe really does fit, wear it, but if you end up like me, be open to new ideas. UA makes some good products (including sponsoring my beloved Auburn Tigers!) so I might try them out.
