A Tale of Two Runs

by - Monday, October 05, 2009

This is a tale of two runs, one that was totally awesome and one that completely sucked.

The first run happened about 20 minutes ago. The weather was perfect, sunny, but cool, with a little bit of a breeze. The hills, which sometimes can be a real pain in the rear, didn't seem all that bad. In general I cruised except for when I had to stop at a few traffic lights. I did my weird 3.67 mile loop in 35:16 and felt strong the entire time.

The second run was on Saturday morning. The weather was warmer than expected. I was dehydrated and apparently hadn't fueled properly despite my late dinner of a burger and fries at an awesome brewery in Bethesda. The run was supposed to be a 10K. At 2.25 miles I had cut it down to four miles. Near the three mile mark, I was dizzy and decided it was just time to go home. Total distance 3.78. Running fail.

Moral of this tale: Bad runs happen, but then good runs happen and the bad ones don't seem like that big of a deal.

That's all I've got for today. Happy Monday!

  1. I'm glad that you got the good run at the start of your week! It's always a bummer when the beginning of the week begins with a crappy run.

  4. Wait. Shouldn't this post have started off:

It was teh best of runs; it was teh suckiest of runs ...?

And shouldn't the wrong man have been sent to the guillotine at the end of it? Preferably Cletus?

  5. Burger and Fries generally equal out to be crummy next day runs for me...it has yet to stop me. I just take that into account that I will pay a price the next day which causes me to pause and then decide that if I am going to blow it, I might as well do it good and ask for grilled onions.
Glad you started with a great run..

  6. yikes for feeling dizzy. never a good feeling. glad you were able to make it home safe - much more important than finishing out a run. dizzy + running just plain sucks! i'm sure it had nothing to do with the burger and fries... musta just been an off day. yeah, that's it! :)
