Puppy Day One and a Brutal WOD

Well I survived my first day with the puppy.

Kylie is the sweetest, most mild mannered dog ever, but she has some separation issues that are breaking my heart. She starts crying the minute we aren't in the same room together. Yesterday when I was working from home, I got up to go to the bathroom, you know a five second task, and the poor puppy started wailing at me.

Perk of working from home: conference calls while puppy naps at my feet.

When I took a shower last night after CrossFit, I had to bring her in the bathroom, and then she tried to jump in the tub so we wouldn't be separated by the shower curtain. Her little puppy cries kill me.

Speaking of CrossFit, last night's workout was brutal.

For our lift portion of the class, we focused on snatch grip deadlifts. I haaaaaate snatch grip deadlifts. Because my grip is so weak, I can only lift a fraction of the weight on a snatch grip deadlift that I can on a normal deadlift.

The wider grip makes it so much harder to keep control of the bar. It was slipping and sliding in my hands all night and I have the nasty calluses to prove it.

We did three sets of five, and I hit 113, 123 and 123.

Our conditioning portion of the class was a beast.

4 Rounds:

  • 15 Double Kettlebell Cleans

  • 7 Double Kettlebell Front Squats

  • Sled Push

I kept the weight pretty light on the cleans and the squats, opting for two 8 kg kettlebells.

The sled pushes were brutal though. The girls' sleds had 50 extra pounds of weight and the guys' sleds had 100 extra pounds. I was very glad to be only pushing the 50 extra pounds.

We started off pushing uphill, and then we turned around and pushed it back down hill. The first two times were tough. By the last time, I actually thought my legs might give out.

It didn't help that it was sunny and humid outside either.

My legs are still toast from that workout, so instead of a run this morning, I opted to take the puppy on a 45 minute walk instead to loosen everything up. It helped (and it was good exercise for Kylie.)

Killer workout. At least it wasn't 100 degrees and horribly humid, right?
