Sleep-Deprived All of February

by - Thursday, March 01, 2018

February was a weird month for me. In many ways, I felt like I blinked and the month was over. But it was also a super busy month of activities and travel. That plus work stress and not getting nearly enough sleep kind of made me feel like I was in a haze the entire month.

The month started out with a fun ski weekend in Snowshoe, WV with friends. I'm not a skier, but the mountain is pretty and despite that fact that one day it was -17 with the windchill, the following day was brisk and sunny and I enjoyed some really nice walks in the snow while everyone else was on the slopes.

The Sunday we got back from the trip was the Super Bowl, and I spent the following week in some total state of delirium after the Eagles victory and planned a last minute trip to Philly for the parade.

Add to that the Olympics starting (I stayed up way too late too many nights to watch them) plus another trip to PA for my mom's birthday and suddenly the month was basically over, and I was incredibly sleep-deprived.

As you can imagine, my really nice workout routine that I'd established through November, December and January totally fell by the wayside.

I still routinely made it to my swim practice on Saturday mornings, and most weeks I managed to muster the energy for at least one run. But strength training was pretty non-existent and I might have only made it to one yoga class the entire month.

I know I definitely need to get back to some strength training because I can feel some of my hip soreness creeping back in after the time off. I'll be re-committing to that in March.

I also just need to get more sleep. The constant exhaustion had such a negative impact on me in February.

But it will have to wait until later in the month because I'm headed to Japan for a nice long vacation. I'm super pumped to go back. I'm going for basically double the time that I went last time, and I can't wait to see places like Kyoto and Hiroshima that I didn't get to see last time I was there.

That means things will likely be pretty quiet around the ol' blog while I'm gone. But when I get back, I will have lots of fun photos and recaps to share from my trip!

I'm sure flying across the world will do nothing to help my sleep deprivation, but I guess I'll deal with that when I get back too.
