All summer long I'd been hoping to avoid this.

But here we are only a month and a half away from race day and I haven't run more than a mile since April. My hip still hurts. I'm no closer to an answer about what's wrong with it than I was back then.

It was time to stop living in denial and pull the trigger on deferring my race entry.

So I did that. And I canceled my hotel reservation.

All my big plans to run my next marathon the year after I finished grad school are down the tubes.

I'm sad. I'm frustrated.

I have yet another appointment with my orthopedic surgeon in a couple of weeks. Maybe I'll know more then, but I doubt it.

  3. Hopefully you get more answers soon and be on the path to recovery. Stay positive, get better, and run Chicago in 2018! I am running Chicago this year, and I will dedicate one of those miles to you as good luck towards your recovery. How about mile 18 for 2018?
