I'm pretty sure the Red Line is doing everything in it's power to keep me from getting home at a normal hour to get my run in. Last night right after 4 p.m. a man was struck and killed by a Metro train one stop from the one I take to get home. The reports are saying the man was intentionally on the tracks. (Meaning he was most likely trying to kill himself.)

Metro suicide attempts aren't the most uncommon thing in the world, but I mean come on...seriously...on the Red Line again! After what happened last week. Unreal.

So my commute was again messed up last night. But this time I knew before I left work and a friend offered to have me take her Metro line home and then she'd drive me to my house. Thank God for good friends!

I got home later than normal, but it's okay because I got to catch up with a friend I hadn't seen in a while (looking for the positives here). After helping my roommate fix her wireless, I was finally able to get my three miles in.

I'm glad I didn't leave until later because holy crap was it humid. It felt like I was running through water. I toughed it out though and finished my three miles in 28:54. I had a little bit of nagging in my left leg around mile 1.5 but I kept going because it wasn't too bad. I noticed my form getting a little wonky at the end of the run and I'm not sure what that was about, just something I'll have to pay attention to from now on.

I was less than eager to get out of bed Sunday morning when my alarm went off at 5:45 in the morning. I hit snooze a few times but eventually dragged my butt out of the bed so I could get my run in before the temps climbed too high.

I did my usual prep routine. Toast, water, threw a Gu in my pocket and I was out the door. My target was eight miles, taking it up to nine or 10 if I was feeling good.

Turns out my legs had other plans and right around mile one I had to stop and walk because my left calf was crazy tight and I could feel a bit of a shin splint developing. I walked for a minute or two and felt better so I picked the pace back up again. A few minutes later the nagging shin/calf pain came back.

Stopped and walked again. I continued this way until about the two mile marker when I had to decided if I was going to turn left and push through the full eight miles or hang a right and cut the mileage in half.

I went right, cut the run short and iced a bit when I got home. In total I went four miles in 42 or 43 minutes. So my time wasn't too crappy despite the leg issues. Hopefully things go better the rest of the week.

In weekend news, I saw "The Proposal" Saturday night with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds and it was hillllarious. I truly hadn't been expecting that much out of it, but it cracked me up!

And in Monday morning commute news, I was able to take the Red Line on the metro for the first time since the accident last week. It was really crowded and running very slowly, but I got to work only a few minutes late. So I'm crossing my fingers that things will be back to normal sooner rather than later!

(Why do I just know Glaven will come up with some horribly inappropriate comment about that title?)

So the BF is in the midst of packing because he's hoping to move soon and last night his mom came over to drop some boxes and things off. Unfortunately when she got out of the car, her iPhone slipped out and fell right down the storm drain.

His mom is understandably kind of bummed out, but the BF was like oh I can just crawl down there and get it out. His mom and I look at each other a little confused thinking oh really?

And BF goes on to tell us you just have to take the manhole cover off, climb down the ladder in there and grabbed the phone. (Should I be concerned the BF knows so much about the inner workings of a storm drain?) So we grab a flashlight and the BF finds something in the garage to yanked the cover off with. Those suckers are heavy.

Then he climbs down the ladder, hops down, grabs the phone and climbs back up. Like you know, it's an every day thing for him to climb down into storm drains.

Oh the best part of the story is that his mom iPhone works perfectly, even after the 10 footish drop and landing in a little puddle of water. She had it in this rubber case, which I'm betting is what saved it.

So BF saved the day and his mom didn't have to buy a new phone!

In workout news, I've got a long run schedule for this weekend. It's something between 8 and 10 and I'm just going to play it by ear depending on how I feel!
